The “Artist of the Month” is Henri Matisse, a French artist who made bright, joyful paper collages.  His simple but strange shapes and contrasting colors told a story.  He used a style in his collages and paintings called “fauvism,” which means “wild beast” because the art was so wild and expressive.  The children talked about how they felt when looking at his work.

The children had fun pretending to be Matisse.  As a group, they made a collage of wild, colorful “cut-outs.”  The finished work left them with happy feelings and is displayed at the school.
